Attempted Car Break-In on Doña Evita: What Happened

In the early morning hours of November 26, 2024, at approximately 1:15 AM, a suspect attempted to break into a car parked on Doña Evita. Thanks to a Ring Video Doorbell, the homeowner got a clear idea of what went down and how we can all take steps to keep our neighborhood safer.

What Happened

The Suspect’s Actions:

The individual, dressed in all black and wearing a baseball cap, walked up to the car and began circling it, peering into the windows. They seemed to be looking for anything worth stealing.

Spotting the Camera:

At first, the suspect didn’t notice the Ring Video Doorbell recording their every move. Once they realized it was there, they turned their back to the camera, likely trying to avoid being identified.

Attempted Break-In:

Despite spotting the camera, the suspect still tried the driver’s side door handle. Fortunately, the car was locked, and they left the scene empty-handed when the door wouldn’t open.

What Could Have Helped

While the Ring Video Doorbell played a key role in capturing the incident, a motion-sensor light could have made an even bigger difference. A sudden flood of light often startles would-be thieves and sends them packing before they can attempt anything. If you don’t have one installed yet, it’s a simple addition that’s worth considering.

Tips for Staying Safe

This incident is a good reminder to stay one step ahead of potential break-ins. Here’s how:

  • Lock It Up: Make sure your car doors are locked every time you park, even in your own driveway.

  • Keep It Empty: Don’t leave anything visible in your car. Even a bag or loose change can catch the eye of a thief.

  • Light It Up: Add motion-sensor lights to driveways, side yards, or anywhere vehicles are parked. They’re an easy, affordable deterrent.

  • Be Alert: If you notice someone suspicious, like a person dressed all in black walking through the neighborhood late at night, take note of their appearance and report it if necessary.

  • Share What You See: Talk to neighbors about what’s going on and share security footage if you catch anything.

Moving Forward

Thankfully, this attempt didn’t result in theft or damage, but it’s a clear reminder to stay proactive about security in our neighborhood. If you have more information or footage related to this incident, contact local law enforcement to assist in their investigation.

Let’s keep working together to make Doña Evita and the surrounding streets a safe place to live!
